The shackle for the door limiter AKA check strap was completely broken off. I really wish I'd taken a picture of the jury rigged way it had been handled before (not my doing). The previous owner had screwed a nylon strap into the door and the body. More unnecessary holes, sigh... The way I did this was to weld a couple of pieces of steel together to make a bending jig, that gave me the correct thickness for the space in the inside of the shackle, then I bent a piece of steel around those pieces, hammered and squeezed in the bench vise until I got a nice straight bend on both sides the rest of it consisted of making a paper template from the one good shackle on the other door, transferring the profile to the new piece of bent steel, then grinding to shape and drilling on a drill press.

I'm not a great welder at this point, but I can sure grind :-)
