Josh,
When I originally decided to learn classical, it was because I could not find a Flamenco teacher. I have now found some instruction inthis area, and I am studying the techniques and practicing them with seriousness. I will be using the new guitar for Spanish AND Flamenco, maybea few traditional classical pieces thrown in here or there but my passion lies in the Spanish style, which brings me to my next question. Inconsideration of the Golpe technique, do you think it may be wise to install a clear pick - fingernail guard? How do you think this might affect the sound? I don't want to risk damaging the finish, on the other hand, don't want to risk damaging the sound more than anything. Any guidance here?
Thanks,
Jerry
Jerry,
Tap plates should be no problem for the sound (not noticably). But please use good ones and wait a few months after receiving the guitar to put them on. This way the finish will be fully cured and a little bit harder. Once time I repolished the entire soundboard of someone's guitar after fixing some cracks (guitar was 30 years old), and when I put the tap plates on which he gave me, the finish deteriorated under them within 30 minutes, and I had to do it over.Usually they can be removed easily with a little bit of naptha, which won't harm the finish, if you decide you don't like them.
Best wishes,
Joshua
