During the course of our discussions about what tonewoods to use, I had originally leaned towards what has become a "modern" day tradition, Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides.

I always solicited Joshua's advice from the very beginning, however, understanding that while I might have preferences, they might not always be based on good information. I think that Joshua was relieved to have a client that would listen to his suggestions, rather than dictate everthing.

I have learned from my 30 some odd years as the student of a Traditional Chinese Martial Arts master, that it's always wiser to listen to what the master tells you to do, rather than tell him what to do...

This is how we arrived at the choice of Spanish Cypress for the back and sides. Aside from this being much more traditional tonewood for a Spanish guitar, Joshua mentioned that one of the finest sounding instruments he had ever produced had been made in just this way, Spanish Cypress and Spruce, with a brass Tornavoz. You can see it here.
